Looking at the exploded view the shifter is a bevel gear on the prop shaft that engages another bevel gear on the end of the drive shaft. the only rubbing would be the shifter cage than moves the gears. WebDec 9, 2024 · Absolute nonsense, I just bought a 1991 Gamefisher 9.9 that has been sitting for over 5 years in a old timers basement. With a 5 minute carb rebuild (remove carb and cleaning). It purrs. I even adjusted the carb to a slower idle rpm and it still runs strong and doesn’t cut out. You can even start it on low idle. This guy is crazy.
